Eric Burmeister is a seasoned housing professional with forty years’ experience in residential and commercial real estate development and finance now working as an Executive Consultant and available for contracting opportunities with organizations exploring and implementing strategies to increase regional inventories of homes accessible to area residents. Unique and valuable experience as an attorney, adjunct professor and non-profit Executive Director.





EXPERIENCE



Development



• Twenty years as private Attorney Practitioner primarily representing Developers and Lenders in complicated legal matters over the entire continuum of real estate development from conception to sale.

• Ten years as In-House Counsel and Vice President of Development for multi-department commercial and residential development companies.

• Thirteen years of experience evaluating market and financial feasibility of affordable housing projects and approval of necessary government gap funding.



Housing Services



• Responsible for the formation of and initial staffing of the Polk County Continuum of Care (HUD).

• Responsible for the review, recommendation and evaluation of philanthropically funded programs for housing supportive services in the Polk County Continuum of Care geographic jurisdiction.



Non-Profit Management



• Twelve years as Executive Director of the Polk County Housing Trust Fund, the comprehensive Planning, Advocacy and Funding organization for housing in the metro Des Moines, Iowa region. (501[c]3).
Responsibilities: Organizational Strategic Planning and implementation Project and program evaluation and funding recommendations Federal, State and Local Advocacy, including membership on local Boards, Committees and Commissions involving affordable housing Media and Community Relations Fundraising.​​


Housing Justice



• Co-creator and researcher of comprehensive study of historical Redlining in the City of Des Moines, including pictorial and video narrative experienced by over 300 people in situ and thousands remotely.
• Co-chair of housing Strategic Implementation Team for One Economy, a regional initiative to address and mitigate the effects of racial inequality on the economic circumstances of black residents of the City of Des Moines, Iowa.
